Risehill, Cumbria

On a cold and wet July week GSB and Time Team ventured to Risehill, a 19th Century Navvy Camp on top of the Yorkshire dales for the workers who built the Settle - Carlisle railway.

What we found

This was not the best site for survey waist height thistles, nettles covered the ground and when it rained it rained hard! However the extent of the navvy camp was determined and a possible workshop was identified.
