Westminster Abbey, London

GSB and Time Team visited Westminster Abbey, in a very rainy September. Perhaps one of the most iconic sites the team have visited so far - apart from Buckingham Palace!

Westminster Abbey was largely built by Henry III in the 13th century and has been used as a burial place for royalty for over 500 years. Time Team were invited here to search for the lost sacristy - a room which would have housed some of the abbey's treasures!

What we found

The footprint of the original 13th century Sacristy was recorded, including a possible cross-wall and some burials.

Other features were seen within the radar results but the number of utility services which crossed the area hasn't helped in the interpretation.
