Tobermory, Isle of Mull

GSB and Time Team visited Tobermory on the Isle of Mull. The long trek to site was met with beautiful scenery and midges!

A bit of a tricky site, being in a woodland and with stone structures on the surface meant the geophysical survey did not run as smoothly as some of the sites!

The site itself is known as Baliscate, also known as Coille Creag A'Chat and represents a small chapel.

What we found

Resistance survey corresponded with the extant earthworks and structural remains with high resistance responses showing the stonework.

GPR survey was less successful as the natural outcrops of geology were mainly detected. However there was the potential of a prehistoric ground surface within the results.
