Cunetio, Wiltshire

GSB and Time Team visited the site of an impressive roman town, known for the largest roman coin hoard found in Britain. We had a tough challenge ahead of us - to survey as much as possible in 3 days!

  What we found

Over 11ha of data were collected magnetically! Which on Time Team standards is the most we have ever done. Results did not disappoint as can be seen from the images to the left. They include defensive walls and ditches, buildings and street plans.

A different GPR kit was used on this site - a Mala MIRA, in which the kit is mounted on a driven mower, and collects thousands of data points in a very short time. The survey was concentrated over the mansio. A few problems did arise with the wet weather. Read John's comments here.
